The Star
The Star is card XVII of the 22 major arcana of the tarot; in the Golden Dawn tradition it corresponds to Aquarius.

The Star comes after the storm: calm, open and quietly hopeful. It pours care back into yourself and out into the world.
Symbols on the card
- The great star and seven small ones
- Guidance and hope that return after darkness.
- Water poured on land and into the pool
- Renewal for both the inner and the outer life.
- The kneeling figure
- Openness and vulnerability without fear.
- The bird on the tree
- The mind lifted by inspiration.
The card's history
The Marseille Star shows a naked woman pouring two jugs beneath eight stars, the first fully naked figure in the trumps. Waite kept her and added the pool, the land and a bird in a tree; the Golden Dawn linked her to Aquarius, the water-bearer.
Upright meaning
Healing is underway. Let hope be steady and gentle, and keep pouring care into what matters.
Love Renewed trust, gentle connection, healing after hurt.
Work Inspiration, a clearer sense of purpose, work that feels meaningful.
Inner life Be open about what you hope for; your light helps others find theirs.
Reversed meaning
Hope feels far away. Start with one small thing that restores you.
Love Losing faith in love; give yourself time to heal before deciding.
Work Discouragement or lost motivation; reconnect with why you started.
Inner life Disconnection from yourself; rest and simple care are enough for now.

Questions to sit with
- What gives me hope, even quietly?
- Where can I pour care back into myself?
A small practice
Write three things that gave you even a little hope this month, and keep the list where you can see it.
In the Fool's journey
Tarot here is a mirror for reflection, not a prediction. The meanings follow the Waite-Smith tradition and the Golden Dawn attributions, in our own words.
