Questions
How is my zodiac sign worked out?
Your sun sign is the sign of the zodiac the Sun was in when you were born. The tropical zodiac starts at the March equinox and gives each sign 30° of the Sun's yearly path, so the signs follow the seasons, not the constellations of the same name.
Why do the dates of the signs change from year to year?
A 365-day calendar year is about a quarter of a day shorter than the Sun's cycle, and leap years make up for it every four years. So the moment the Sun enters a sign drifts by a few hours each year and can fall on either of two days, sometimes three across time zones.
What does it mean to be born on the cusp?
Being born on the cusp means being born on a day when the Sun changed sign. You still have one sun sign: whichever sign the Sun was in at your birth minute. Your Moon, rising sign and the rest of the birth chart add the other colours people associate with a cusp.
Is my sign different in the sidereal zodiac?
Yes. Indian (sidereal) astrology measures signs against the stars, which have shifted about 24° since the tropical zodiac was fixed, so most people's sidereal sign is the one before their tropical sign. This site uses the tropical zodiac, as Western astrology does.
