78 ✦ A conversation with yourself
One card, drawn at the start of the day, as a theme to notice. It is the simplest spread and the best way to get to know the deck: over a few months every card has its day.
The positions
- Today's cardThe theme to carry through today: something to notice, try or go easy on.
When to use it
- a daily moment of reflection, morning or evening
- learning the 78 cards one at a time
- an open question when you have no specific one
Questions to ask
- What should I notice today?
- What would help me through this day?
- Where can I go easier on myself today?
How to read it
Start with the picture before the meaning: what is the figure doing, and where does that appear in today's plans? A reversed card points the same theme inward, or asks for a slower pace.
In the evening, look at the card again. Noticing where it showed up, or did not, is how the cards become familiar.
Questions and answers
- Can I draw again if I don't like the card?
- No: the card of the day is one card a day, and it stays until tomorrow on this device. A card you would rather avoid often has the most to say. For a particular question, choose another spread.
- Is a reversed card of the day a bad sign?
- No. A reversal turns the card's theme inward or slows it down; it is a different emphasis, not misfortune.
- Does the card predict what will happen today?
- No. It offers a theme to reflect on; what you do with the day stays your own.
