The Hierophant
The Hierophant is card V of the 22 major arcana of the tarot; in the Golden Dawn tradition it corresponds to Taurus.

The Hierophant keeps what generations have learned and hands it on. The card is about teachers, shared values and the communities that hold us.
Symbols on the card
- The crossed keys
- Access to knowledge that is passed on, not invented alone.
- The two ministers
- Students, community; wisdom shared between people.
- The raised hand of blessing
- Guidance that connects the outer form to inner meaning.
- The two pillars
- A threshold: the institution as a doorway.
The card's history
Marseille calls him Le Pape, the pope blessing two tonsured clerics. Waite kept the scene but used the older word hierophant, the one who reveals sacred things, to widen it beyond one church to any tradition and teaching.

Questions to sit with
- Whose teaching has helped me most, and what did it give me?
- Which inherited belief am I ready to examine?
A small practice
Write down one belief you inherited and ask: do I still choose this?
In the Fool's journey
Tarot here is a mirror for reflection, not a prediction. The meanings follow the Waite-Smith tradition and the Golden Dawn attributions, in our own words.
