The Emperor
The Emperor is card IV of the 22 major arcana of the tarot; in the Golden Dawn tradition it corresponds to Aries.

The Emperor builds the walls that keep a life standing: rules, plans and responsibility. His strength is order chosen for a purpose.
Symbols on the card
- The stone throne
- Stability built to last.
- The rams' heads
- Aries: initiative, courage, the will to lead.
- The ankh sceptre and orb
- Responsibility for life and for the world in one's care.
- The bare mountains
- Hard-won ground; clarity over comfort.
The card's history
Marseille's L'Empereur sits in profile with a sceptre and an eagle shield. Waite gave him a stone throne carved with rams' heads, linking him to Aries, the sign the Golden Dawn assigned to this card.
Upright meaning
Bring order to what feels chaotic. A clear plan and firm boundaries will protect what matters.
Love Commitment, reliability and clear expectations; feeling safe with each other.
Work Take responsibility, lead, set the structure others can rely on.
Inner life Discipline as self-respect: keep the promises you make to yourself.
Reversed meaning
