The Lovers
The Lovers is card VI of the 22 major arcana of the tarot; in the Golden Dawn tradition it corresponds to Gemini.

The Lovers is a card of union and of choice. A real connection asks you to choose with your values, not only with your desire.
Symbols on the card
- The angel above
- A higher view that blesses an honest bond.
- The two trees
- Desire and knowledge; passion and conscious choice.
- The serpent
- Temptation, and the self-knowledge it can bring.
- The mountain between them
- A shared aim that the two can climb towards.
The card's history
The Marseille Lovers show a young man between two women while Cupid aims from above: a card of choice. Waite redrew it as Adam and Eve in the garden under an angel, a picture of union, with the choice now between desire and knowledge.

Questions to sit with
- What do I value most in this choice?
- Where am I saying yes with my mouth but not with my heart?
A small practice
Write the choice in front of you as two columns: what each option says about who you want to be.
In the Fool's journey
Tarot here is a mirror for reflection, not a prediction. The meanings follow the Waite-Smith tradition and the Golden Dawn attributions, in our own words.
